I need a new pair of spec, getting to the age where I need Varifocals, wondered whether it would be cheaper to have a eye test and by in Pattaya or buy at home.

Anyone any experiences ?

I took my prescription and frames for reading glasses to Charon in walking street. About 100 metres on the left heading south. Two hours and a thousand baht later I had new lenses. They are good quality and I am satisfied.

This year, I required varifocal glasses for the first time.

The first pair I got weren't quite right and I had to get my eyes retested as one possible reason I was having problems with them was that the prescription was slightly out. As it happened, this was the case and I'm now very happy with them most of the time.

For your first pair, it might just be preferable to buy them in the UK. That way, if you do have problems for any reason it will be a lot easier to deal with these at home rather on a short holiday. If you're looking for a spare pair though, then I might be inclined to buy in Pattaya.

I got a quote in Pattaya last month for a pair of progressive lenses with frames for AUD$250. Price for just the lenses back here is AUD$368. Next trip I intend to bring my own prescription, which is available free on Medicare (NHS) and get a new set made. I got the quote from the optometrists in Mike Shopping Mall on Beach Road, as they were recommended previously on this board. Their on the right after you enter the front door.
