I'm looking to take care of some minor sleep apnea issues, nothing too serious. The closest hospital to me as Pattaya city hospital, but I haven't been to any of them during my time here.

For anyone who's shopped around, which has the cheapest doctor's fee for a simple visit? I'm guessing it would probably be Pattaya City or Pattaya Memorial as those community hospitals are usually a little bit cheaper.

For basic ailments you are really just paying extra for "the queue and the view"....I suppose it depends on how much you value your free time...

Years ago, I used Bangkok/Pattaya hospital. Doctor spoke excellent English. Service was fast and the price was reasonable. More important the diagnosis was correct and the treatment worked.

It's all a bit hit and miss.

Sleep Apnea would require a doctor with some experience of the problem and you may find that at Bangkok Hospital Pattaya.

Cheapest is likely a small clinic, followed by Memorial, then City. I would expect the BHP to be more expensive but also more likely to have a doctor with some experience of the problem. That said all of them are capable of simply sending you off with a few pills of little use.... get a relatively inexperienced one at BHP and he isn't going to admit his deficiencies.

I might be tempted to go straight to Doctor Oliver who many speak well of although he will be closed until the 3rd January.

I am tempted to believe that I used him in Yangon around 5 years ago....If so, he is an excellent doctor..

Just checked his CV...it wasn't him..

You must make a mistake ?? There is nothing "reasonable" in BPH prices !
Many expats here surnamed it "The Hilton Hospital"; not for nothing. ;)
I also remember a report from MM here, not long ago, with a very "nice" bill for not such a big problem.

The OP will likely find the BHP prices to be reasonable or at least not that bad compared to the US. Perhaps that is because medical costs in the US are outrageous, entirely possible. Or, perhaps, it is because, in the US, we get to see the actual bill even if most of us have most of the bill paid by insurance. I gather that is not the case in a country with a single payer system.

It's a relevant as any other post in this topic. I stated it was years ago and I was more then satisfied with the service, diagnoses and treatment. This is a opinion based forum. This is my opinion based on actually going to the hospital.

I paid less then $100USD for the lab tests, treatment and drugs. Service was fast and the treatment worked. Well worth the money.

Not sure if it would still be that low if there was a lab test. Office visit and a couple of meds will still come in the 3,000 baht range.

I should mention that I have also had a couple of misfires at BHP.  The clearest was about three years ago when the orthopedic specialist missed a crack in the head of the humerus in the shoulder joint.  It set okay anyway but that is a bit disconcerting.  Doc in the US found it by way of an MRI.  The guy at BHP didn't order one.

I think quoting what you paid 8 years ago could be misleading, but I too paid under $100 (just) for a consultation, lab test and prescribed medication at the BHP THIS YEAR (again just). I also agree that they offer a fast and efficient service. They also tried to get me to have some further tests which I declined as I felt they were scaremongering.

I've always thought BPH's prices were at least OK for out-patient visits including lab/x-ray work, but once admitted the numbers can quickly get crazy..

Keep in mind that BigD really doesn't care what the costs are. The government is paying his medical bills either directly or with a reimbursement.

So he says but it's not like anything he says is either relevant or credible.

He is a fascinating poster though, only one I have come across that can befuddle himself and disprove his own arguments unknowingly multiple times.

Pattaya International Hospital on Soi 4 gave me a thorough health check last sept. about 12000 bhat

I used them for a couple of years but after an incident last year I stopped using them...I had been in to see the doctor and she told me what treatment was required, so off I went to pay and collect my package. When the nurse (male Pinoy)came accross to talk to me about my treatment it wasn't what the Doctor had told me. There was then a public arguement with me insisting he went back to confirm and he insisting that he was the professional and I should basically shut up and do as I was told....In the end off he trotted and came back red faced and with an apology saying there had been a linguistic mix up (which is why I mentioned he was a Pinoy.)The mix up? The difference between "Only" and "No" .....

Also they issued me locally produced BP pills at the same price as BPH issued me Oz produced BP pills which also gave a difference of 10 points (130 and 140)..

I'm quite wary to go to just any hospital. Pattaya International Hospital is quite reputable.

I went to LIfeCare Labs and the same set of tests, blood and ekg, cost 1000 baht. LifeCare is located on 3rd road heading down toward Jomtien but maybe 1 kilometer before it meets Thappraya Road.

Have to say when I had bit of an accident turned my ankle thought it was broken had excellent service from Bangkok Pattaya. Expecting a bill into 5 figures it was just 2940 Baht albeit thats going back a few years and included a quality crutch which they didnt want back. I didnt even bother claiming on insurance. The intial doctors you see were in my experience CHEAPER then pattaya inter and memorial both of which I had experience for minor stuff that same year. Could have changed obviously I acknowedge since 2008

Went to life care for a total cholesterol test.........I had 5 other years I wanted to to compare the result with.

In Jan' this year I'd had all the various tests for  2500 baht. My total cholesterol in Jan was 212............Since then I'd been eating almonds everyday......Pleased to see it was down to 193......... The guy charged me 60 baht!

Another vote for Bangkok Pattaya Hospital. I had a ( very minor ) procedure there three years ago. Happy with the service and price. Collected from and dropped back to my central pattaya hotel for an additional 120 baht each way if my memory serves me correctly
